The Museum of Post and Communications contains exhibitions on the History of Post, the History of Telecommunications, and Živa's Corner, which is intended for younger visitors.
The History of Post exhibition provides an introduction to the development of postal services from ancient times until the present. Four rooms contain models of postal carriages, reconstructions of post offices, uniforms of postmen from different periods as well as a variety of postal transportation (e.g. horse-drawn carriage, bicycle, motorbike). Special attention is given to Lovrenc Košir, who is considered a father of the postage stamps. Visitors can watch short films about the postal service, an animated film entitled Whose is the Letter? and listen to the melodies of the postal Horn, an indispensable part of postilion's equipment.
The History of Telecommunications exhibition takes visitors through the history of telecommunications, from the first electrical telegraph, telephones, teleprinter and telephoto equipment to the first Yugoslavia's automatic telephone exchange from 1927. The exhibition pays special attention to the women telephone and telegraph operators. The development of telephony and telegraphy significantly contributed to the provision of new jobs, which were predominantly taken by women. The displays include a wide collection of appliances used for sending messages over large distances. Visitors can listen ‘over the phone’ to how people used the telephone in the past and try out a telephone and a teleprinter exchange. New exhibition (Tele)communications in the Past, at Present, and in the Future! was opened in 2015, dedicated to the development of mobile telephony in Slovenia and the world.
Živa's Corner aims at familiarizing the youngest museum visitors with the history of post and telecommunications by a selection of games (Find the Pair, Post Through Time) and various workshops (making of a post horn, postal worker’s cap, stamps etc.).
